For those of you who don't know me, I have been attending SRSFL for the last seven years or so, and the people and organization have become an integral part of my winter experience. I love the challenge that often goes with cross country skiing, especially in the Sierra; and in addition, I truly enjoy building the partnerships that are so necessary between skier and guide. When I'm not skiing, I work as a spiritual counselor, helping people understand their life situations from a spiritual or symbolic perspective while teaching techniques for managing or changing those situations in the real world. I also work as a voice coach for radio journalists. I am happily married, play guitar and banjo, hike a lot, and I love dark chocolate!
Now, it is my pleasure and privilege to help guide and shape SRSFL for the next two years; as President, I very much look forward to working with all of you in this process.
I would like to thank my previous Board of Directors, along with all those who have helped guide the organization up to this point. Their vision and hard work have helped SRSFL grow into one of the largest regionals; and because of their diligence, I believe we are moving toward 2008 stronger than ever. I have an incredible new Board to work with this year; and I invite and encourage all of you to contact any of us with your ideas and suggestions.
I do believe that SRSFL still stands at a bit of a crossroads. We are fast growing from a Sacramento-based group into a statewide organization; this growth happened because many people recognized a good thing, and had the enthusiasm and the tenacity to keep it going. Now, the challenge is to take on this expansion consciously, while maintaining the warmth and intimacy, as well as the relaxed fun, that have become such a part of SRSFL. As I see it, this will mean actively working to shape the future of SRSFL, while at the same time, allowing the organization to unfold as the spirit of SRSFL moves it. You can start the "actively working" part by joining one of our many committees. These include recruitment and publicity, fund-raising, guide training and all the many logistics of the events.
